films that inspired our production

Revolutionary Road (2008) Directed by Sam Mendes
This film inspired our short film as it shows the slow progression towards a couple eventually separation. This film also focus on the theme that marriage doesn’t always equal a happy ending as the couple seems perfect to onlookers however they face challenges in the home. For our film we may carry on this theme by showing how the female cannot grasp that her marriage has turned to ruin.

Room (2015) Directed by Lenny Abrahamson
This feature film inspired our short film as the majority of the film is set in a small basemen room. The directors use of this one location highlighted the terrible ordeal that the characters were facing and gave the audience as chance to truly witness there emotions. For our short film, we wanted to emulate that to the audience as well by keeping the locations limited to a living room setting where the two protagonists would try and repair there broken marriage.

Blue Valentine (2010) Directed by Derek Cianfrance
This feature film inspired our short film as it focuses on a young couple whose marriage breaks down. The film also cuts back and forth between their relationship in the past and their relationship now, this enables the viewers to see where their relationship broke down. In film we are going to show the couple at happier moments so the audience can feel the devastation when they break up.
An inspiration board is a vital part of the plannning stages as it gives the production team a guideline to the film and the different aspects that are adressed in the narrative. The inspiration board is also very useful because it can be used to look back on when creating the film poster as similar imagery can be used.
